April 17, 2025
April is National Volunteer Appreciation Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the incredible contributions of our Volunteer in Person (VIP) volunteers. The VIP Volunteer System plays a vital role in connecting dedicated individuals with schools and programs that benefit from their time and talents.
Our volunteers have supported students and staff in countless ways—prepping science projects, organizing art supplies, sharing professional expertise, chaperoning field trips, working one-on-one with students, and even engaging in play during recess. Their generosity and commitment help create enriching experiences that contribute to the success of our students and schools.
A special thank you to Volunteer Coordinator Beth Swanson for her dedication to making the VIP program a success. We appreciate all our volunteers for their time, effort, and passion—your impact is truly invaluable!

Thanks to the support of district leadership, staff, parents, and community members, the VIP program now has 2,800 registered volunteers across 12 school sites. As of April 15th, volunteers have filled 6,369 needs, contributing over 5,500 hours of service this school year alone. Among them are 270 individuals who have given 30 minutes or more of their time, and 17 volunteers who have dedicated over 100 hours.
Beth Swanson also highlighted the volunteer work of Lucinda Bersano and Tish Watts from the Go Team Therapy Dog program. Go Team Therapy Dogs is a national organization dedicated to providing comfort and support through trained therapy dogs.
Local program coordinator Lucinda Bersano and Tish Watts are leading the effort to bring therapy dogs into schools, creating a warm and welcoming environment for students. In addition to visiting classrooms, the Go Team has also joined the district’s Crisis Recovery Team, offering their calming presence during times of need.
Thanks to all the district's volunteers!
