Clark County Sheriff's Office, Washington State

Earlier this month, Cadet April Carvel was working near the front window of the Sheriff’s Office when a woman ran into the lobby yelling for Narcan. Her son had overdosed and was unresponsive in a vehicle parked outside near the Clark County Justice Center.
Deputies immediately ran outside to assist the man — but April also realized she had Narcan in her purse, which she carries as a life-saving precaution. Without hesitation, she provided it to the distraught mother through the lobby window so she could administer it right away.
Deputies and detectives quickly arrived on scene, removed the man from the vehicle, began CPR, administered additional Narcan, and attached an AED.
Officers and a Nurse responded to assist, helping support efforts until medics arrived.
The man regained consciousness and was transported to the hospital for further treatment — the result of a coordinated response by multiple members of our team, each stepping up when every second mattered.
April has been a Cadet since November and hopes to become a deputy one day, with aspirations of working K-9 and narcotics. We’re proud of Cadet Carvel — and proud of everyone who helped in this response.
