Educators from across Walla Walla Public Schools convened at the district office for the quarterly meeting of the Equitably Engaging Strategies for Everyone (EESE) Task Force, continuing their work to strengthen restorative practices and ensure every student experiences a strong sense of belonging, connection, and support.

During the session, task force members collaborated to refine and expand examples of what belonging looks like across school environments. These indicators extend beyond the classroom to include shared spaces such as restrooms, cafeterias, hallways, school buses, and locker rooms, reinforcing the district’s commitment to fostering inclusive, welcoming environments in every setting students encounter throughout the day.

Dr. Julie Perron, Director of Equity and Dual Programs, emphasized the importance of clarity and consistency in this work, noting that these examples are shared with each school community to guide implementation.

“If we are deeply committed to building a culture of belonging, we must ensure that all staff are aware of the actions and efforts they can take to include students at all times,” Perron said. “I’m deeply appreciative of the Task Force, as they collaboratively and collectively provide input on a continual basis.”

Established in 2019, the EESE Task Force includes representatives from all district campuses. The group works to build on professional development efforts while moving beyond a “check-the-box” approach. Instead, members focus on increasing awareness, taking meaningful action on issues of social justice, and developing practical strategies that promote equitable practices and positive outcomes for all students.

Through ongoing collaboration and shared leadership, the EESE Task Force continues to play a vital role in advancing a districtwide culture where every student feels valued, respected, and connected.
