Last week, our CBTECH community came together to honor and remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001. Our Criminal Justice and Firefighting students stood proudly alongside their peers as we paid homage to the American flag. Together, we listened as our Criminal Justice and Firefighting instructors reflected on the events of that infamous day—a day that forever changed our nation and one that shall never be forgotten. We want to thank everyone who took the time to join us, especially our military, first responders, and volunteers who stood with us in remembrance.

Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) (FB Post Link)

Attendance is a major contributor to student success!
Students who regularly attend classes are more likely to graduate on time and perform better on state tests. However, some students face potential challenges to getting to school, including unreliable transportation, unsafe walking routes, and health issues.

Attendance is a priority for State Superintendent Chris Reykdal. While regular attendance dropped during the pandemic across the nation, Washington students' attendance has steadily increased each year since 2022, thanks to the sustained efforts of students, families, and educators.

OSPI has published a webpage that gets into the root causes of absenteeism and best practices for improving attendance. Included in these links are real-world examples that show how local school districts are helping students overcome obstacles and reengage with their learning.

All of our Firefighting students and staff were on the bus at 615am to participate in this drill as victims. Community service is a foundation of what we do and this particular event helps prepare our students for their career as first responders. It was a great day!

Firefighting Instructor Challenge series started on Saturday. Students volunteered to be at Badger Mountain at 6:30am where they did the Allington Challenge, a 5.5 mile loop around the mountain with nearly 1,000 feet of elevation gain. There will be different challenges every week with students encouraged to participate as they can to sharpen their mountain skills and fitness,; all to push themselves so they are one step closer to being truly job ready for any firefighting opportunity.

Huge Thanks to Erik White and Metals Fab! 🏗️🔧
We are incredibly grateful to Erik White and the team at Metals Fab @metalsfabco for their generous donation of scrap metal to our Welding Pre-Apprenticeship program at NEWTech!
This donation gives our students hands-on access to quality material for practice welds, fabrication projects, and skill development — all without adding extra costs to our program. Support like this helps us prepare students with the real-world skills they need to succeed in today’s workforce.
Thank you, Erik and Metals Fab, for investing in the future of our students and our community! 🙌🔥
