In this advanced course, students learn the techniques of mixing, shaping, and folding while applying the science and math behind baking. Students practice how to successfully make quick breads, decorated cakes, pies, mousses, sauces, custards, frozen desserts, cookies, and confections. They gain expertise in highly skilled techniques such as sugar decorating and chocolate garnishing in a well-equipped, industry-standard kitchen and prepare food for student presentations, school functions, and community service events.

This course includes classroom instruction and practical lab work in a commercial kitchen.

This course is College Dual Credit approved and articulated with Wenatchee Valley College (WVC) for 10 college credits. DSHS background checks will be completed prior to admission to any of the medical facilities.

The purpose of this course is to provide 11-12 grade students with an overview of the career options available in the healthcare field while receiving all the training necessary to become a licensed Certified Nursing Assistant. About Criminal Justice

During this two-year course, enrolled students will work with personnel in the criminal justice and public service agencies. This includes the Vancouver police department, sheriff’s office, prosecuting attorney’s office, local and state courts, juvenile justice department, Washington state department of corrections and federal law enforcement agencies. Students also engage with guest speakers from these agencies, and experience classroom instruction involving representatives from multiple criminal justice agencies. Skills and competencies taught will include an overview of the criminal justice system, law enforcement, community policing, criminal acts and impacts on society, the U.S. Constitution, criminal codes, work-readiness, investigations, responding to mock scenes and interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills. Graduating students will have the opportunity to apply for their Oregon Private Security Professional certificate. Students will also complete training in CPR and the National Incident Management System. It’s recommended that students further their education at a community or four-year college for entry level and promotional opportunities enhancement.

About Cosmetology

This exciting and creative program offers students an opportunity to engage in the art and science of hair design while earning high school credits and state hours towards licensure. The courses consist of both lecture and lab instruction in hair design. Juniors who successfully complete the first-year will be eligible to return to the second-year program. Students who successfully complete year two in hair design with 1400 clock hours will be eligible for their State Board Examination.

Cascadia Tech Cosmetology staff are committed to the highest standards of excellence.  Their mission is to foster the desire of inquiry in the mind of each student in order for them to grow personally, technically, and professionally.

It is recommended for students to meet with their counselors and get their transcript prior to starting first-year. Students wanting to move onto second-year must be on track to graduate and must provide a current transcript from their sending school.

Attendance is vitally important in both first and second year programs in order for the student to earn enough hours to complete the program and students will need to attend the summer school session between first and second year for additional hours.

First Year

The introduction to cosmetology/hair design is a course that encompasses the foundational concepts that will be used throughout the students’ entire career as a salon professional.  This foundation covers cosmetology theory and lab activities such as:  Client protection, safety, sanitation, hair cutting, hair styling, chemical waving, chemical relaxing treatments, thermal services, and hair color.  Professional development is a continual topic of training both in first and second-year to lay the foundation for success, e.g., healthy mind and body, effective communication, and positive human relations. First-year students learn how to create and maintain a culture consisting of safety, pro-social learning, integrity, and responsibility.  First-year students will concentrate on the hair design course only.

The first-year cosmetology student will attend school for a 2.5-hour timeframe Monday through Friday during session one 7:45 to 10:15 a.m. or session two 11:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Students will accrue approximately 400 clock hours during their first year that will be applied to the 1400 hours state requirement for license. Attendance is crucial to gaining the offered hours during the first year.

Second Year

Extended Day: Monday through Thursday, 11:15 AM – 5:00 PM and Friday 11:15 AM – 1:45 PM

Students will work in the Cascadia Tech Salon Monday through Thursday.  Students will learn exciting new advanced materials and techniques while practicing and building upon first-year fundamentals.  Students will engage and participate in managing the salon, communication, professional conduct, researching and synthesizing new information, demonstration of knowledge in theory and technical skills, and marketing themselves in order to build a clientele. They will also learn the importance of retail sales and salesmanship.  There may be opportunities for student competitions at a regional, state, and national level.  Student internships will be recommended in order to earn additional hours needed for licensure. The importance of exemplary attendance is crucial to obtain hours needed for license. Students will also participate in State Board Preparation classes that simulate the actual State Board test.

The Fire Science Program teaches structural firefighting and prepares students to take the Washington State Firefighter 1 Exam. Student fire recruits are issued full modern fire protective gear, and participate in extended learning experiences at local fire stations and training facilities. This exciting STEM enriched course prepares individuals to engage in the specialized servicing and maintenance of all types of automobiles. Students learn in National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) accredited training facilities. Students are well prepared to further their automotive education at post-secondary institutions, enroll in college engineering programs, and/or pursue a career in the automotive industry.

Topics revolve around the eight nationally recognized Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) areas. Leadership, Interpersonal, ASE supplemental tasks, and 21st Century Skills are embedded throughout this course along with a heavy correlation to science, physics͕ and chemistry and cross-referenced to the Next Generation Science Standards. Students read college level textbooks and practice technical writing skills.

About Construction Technology

This program is designed to prepare students for entry level positions in the construction industry. A combination of theory and hands-on experiences are applied with the construction of several projects. During the 1st year, students receive instruction in safety, hand and power tool usage, construction mathematics, building codes and building plans.  Projects include building a carpenter’s toolbox, designing a set of building plans, building a shed and scale model house, and working off campus on a house project. During the 2nd year, students receive advanced instruction in safety, pneumatic tool usage, construction mathematics, and interpretation of engineered building plans. The second year program provides the opportunity for students to apply their knowledge and skills through the construction of a residential home including site preparation, foundation construction, floor and wall construction, roof construction, siding, trim, windows and door installation.  In addition, students are given the opportunity to work with the sub-contractor, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and roofing.

Students enrolled in the Construction Technology program, during a two-year program, will learn:

About Digital Media Arts
Digital Media Arts (DMA) at WV Tech is a hands-on, professional-oriented program geared for students who want marketable job skills for careers in the television, motion picture, freelance videography, music recording, and sound engineering industries.

Career Opportunities: Camera Operator, After Effect Editor, Video Editor, Audio Technician, Freelance Video Producer, Broadcast Journalist, Social Media Manager, Music Producer.

Academic Equivalence Credit: Fine Arts and English Community

The Digital Media Arts (DMA) program provides students with skills and experiences in digital communications for the television, video, music production, and broadband industries. We have partnered with local employers, "The Wenatchee Wild", the "NCW Life Channel", "Digital Media Northwest", "Wenatchee Valley Symphony Orchestra", "Kenaston Music Productions", "Stagekids", and "Voortex Productions" to provide jobs for students in broadcasting/livestreaming, advertising, multimedia, camera operation, multitrack recording, and live audio production. Our 9-12th grade students make $75/game as camera operators with The WIld, and The NCWLife Channel.

Teamwork is emphasized in scripting, producing, recording and editing commercials, interviews and short feature projects. There is College Credit available for this course through articulation with Spokane Falls Community College. Check out our program pathway for getting into these careers.

Every student in DMA gets access the the full Adobe Creative Cloud 2020 suite of software on any computer, anywhere with an internet connection. This includes: Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Lightroom, Audition, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Character Animator, Animate, Dimension, and more. Students will be issued a web version of "Learn Adobe Premiere Pro CC for Video Communication" by Joe Dockery and Conrad Chavez. We will be completing coursework from this book, and preparing to take the Adobe Premiere Pro Certification Test.

Skills that are helpful and reinforced in this program include: writing and communiciation, listening, organization, time management, interpersonal and leadership, saying "yes" to opportunity, and becoming a quality team player with a positive attitude.
