About Culinary

This is a full year 3-period Skill Center class (3 high school credits).

Year 1: This comprehensive, career-focused program prepares students for the hospitality industry in a commercial kitchen classroom. Students learn French cooking techniques, culinary terminology, knife skills, aesthetics of food presentation, baking and pastry techniques, and prepare a wide variety of foods and cuisines. In addition, students practice safety and sanitation procedures, restaurant management, customer relations, team and leadership skills, and catering and table service. There are also industry-related field trips to observe professionals and learn about career possibilities. Students who successfully complete Year 1 may be eligible to apply for Year 2.

Year 2: Students in Advanced Culinary Arts expand and refine their culinary expertise. Students are prepared with broad and transferable skills in planning, management, communication, and advanced food production for employment and post-secondary education.

About Fashion Design

The Fashion Design program is a two-year course for juniors and seniors interested in pursuing a career or continuing education in a design or fashion-related field.

The Fashion Design program provides the core skills and knowledge necessary for entry-level employment in a fashion or retail career field. Students learn the principles of art and design, customer service and business practices, and the fundamentals of marketing and visual merchandising. They will also learn basic illustration, drawing skills, designing and making clothing, portfolio development, and preparation for future career and/or college readiness.

The second-year program builds on the skills taught during the first year by focusing on leadership development, technical design and development, building on their portfolio, and continued preparation for future career and/or continuing education.

About Cisco Networking

This is a full year 3-period Skill Center class (3 high school credits).

Year 1: Discover how to design, build, manage, and troubleshoot corporate enterprise networks. Learn mitigation of security threats, cybersecurity threat management, and advanced troubleshooting skills with a major emphasis on hands-on learning. Each day half the class time is spent working in a state-of-the-art networking lab. Students take the Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA) exam at the completion of the course.

Year 2: This advanced curriculum trains students to install, configure, and operate local and wide area networks using protocols and technologies such as TCP/IP, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, AAA, IPv6, MPLS, STP, DSL, VTP, Gigabit, and 10 Gigabit Ethernet. This course makes extensive use of labs to focus on developing skills to build campus networks using multilayer switching technologies, creating and deploying a global intranet, and troubleshooting. Aspects of Voice-over-IP (VoIP) and Cisco Unified Communication Manager will be covered as well as aspects of VMWare and Microsoft virtualization of servers. Students also gain experience in setting up and configuring Microsoft Server products. Students take the Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP) exams at the completion of the course.

About Diesel Technology

The Diesel Technology program is a two-year program designed to prepare students, both male and female, for entry-level positions in the heavy equipment industry or to prepare them in furthering their education/training.

Students enrolled in the Diesel Technology program will learn operation theory, maintenance and repair of large trucks and off-road equipment. The systems studied will include electrical, hydraulic, engines, air systems, brakes, and preventative maintenance. Emphasis is placed on the safe operation of hand and power tools, overhead crane, and forklift trucks.

After acquiring the fundamental skills of the trade, students will perform maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment and trucks.

Along with technical material, this program will include units on leadership, communication skills, goal setting, problem solving, conflict resolution, and responsible decision-making.

Program Benefits:

About Building Industry Technologies Core Plus Construction

This is a full year 3-period Skill Center class (3 high school credits).

Work with industry experts who provide professional knowledge and first-hand experience. Utilize different materials and methods, fasteners and adhesives, learn to safely operate the various industry tools, and learn jobsite safety and OSHA requirements.

Design and carry out hands-on skills in practices such as rigging, lifting, and safely moving a load utilizing principles of mechanical advantage. Read, understand, and interpret basic plan sets and engineering drawings. Apply academic concepts such as math and physics for a well-designed project, key concepts in plumbing and electrical, along with energy utilization and energy efficiencies.

Learn about a variety of project management approaches. Feel prepared to find employment in the field or continue at a post-secondary institution. Qualified students may enroll in the Construction Management Program at the University of Washington upon graduation.

About Dental

The Dental class is a one-year program, with the option of a second year advanced class, established to provide students, both men and women, with the skills, knowledge, and attitudes required by the dental profession to work in a dental environment.

The program will teach students the skills necessary to work in a dental practice in various roles. Over 50% of the instruction in this program is devoted to hands-on experience in the on-site dental clinic. The remaining portion of the instruction will be devoted to building professionalism skills, traditional chairside dental assisting duties, dental x-rays, dental materials, terminology, safety issues, and career development. Students completing the dental program will have entry level skills in dental and will be encouraged to further their training at a post-secondary institution or dental environment.

The second year program will take the basic skills learned in the first year and narrow the focus on more complex, advanced skills associated with expanded function dental assistant. Students will prepare to take two sections of the Certified Dental Assisting National Board examination (www.danb.org) to be on task to obtain their CDA certificate. The prerequisite for the second year program is successful completion of the first year program and instructor recommendation.
