Washington State Skills Centers are an integral part of the education K-12 system, operating as an extension of the high schools within a local region. The primary purpose of Skills Centers is to give students the academic and work skills to successfully enter the job market or advanced education and training. Skills Centers provide cost-effective, quality job training in programs that would be too expensive to offer at every high school.
Did you know there are 17 Skills Centers in WA state? We will be introducing all of our skills centers over the next few week! To learn more #followalong!
Our Mission
✅Our mission ensures that all students acquire leadership, academic, and industry-defined skills and are prepared for all post-secondary options after high school.
Our Vision
✅Skills Centers are regional secondary schools that provide extended, industry-defined technical education preferred for its high quality, flexibility and advantages for workforce placement and advancement.
Our Goals
1️⃣School Reform: To position Skills Centers as key partners with school districts, resulting in increased student achievement in an ever-changing school reform environment.
2️⃣Data-driven Decision-making: To implement data systems that drive continuous improvement.
3️⃣Legislation/Funding Initiative: To preserve and expand funding for Skills Center cooperatives during the Legislative Session.
4️⃣Long-term Capital Funding: To develop and incorporate into State Board of Education/Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction policy/rules language for future capital construction needs.
5️⃣Marketing: To develop understanding among stakeholders of the benefits provided by a Skills Center education.

✨ Graduate Spotlight! ✨
Meet Veronica Barragan, a 2021 graduate of our College Esthetics Program and proud owner of Frida’s Beauty Bar in Bremerton! 💖
Licensed in 2021, Veronica has built a thriving business specializing in lashes and brows, where she loves making people feel beautiful and building lasting relationships with her clients.
She says one of the biggest challenges she overcame in the program was speaking in front of people — and now she’s confident, successful, and inspiring others every day! 🙌
💬 Her advice for current & future students:
“Get your license as soon as you’re done with the program, keep updating your knowledge, and be open to learning from others!”
✨ Fun fact: Veronica’s favorite part of class was—of course—getting facials!
We are so proud of you, Veronica, and all you’ve accomplished! 💕
📍 Check her out at Frida’s Beauty Bar, 3627 Wheaton Way, Suite 1A in Bremerton

Students from Teaching Academy West got to teach a quick little math game to their internship classes! They are going through a classroom management unit in class and talking about academic games they can play when they have a little bit of extra time throughout the day.

One of our projects this year for our welding program is to build standing desks for our Construction Trades program to use instead of traditional desks so students can do more heavy duty projects on them. We are impressed with our students and their abilities to design, square, and fabricate such a project. #connectwithnewtech Video Link

Director’s Message @CB Tech
As we approach November, I couldn’t be prouder of our students—this has truly been our best start yet!
We’re at 100% uniform compliance, phones are put away, and students are following directions and showing respect every single day.
We recently hosted our Fall Advisory Board Banquet, where our Culinary Arts students prepared traditional family recipes inspired by their cultural heritage. The theme, “Dinner at Grandma’s,” was a heartfelt success.
Our Medical Assisting and Certified Nursing Assistant programs volunteered at the Alzheimer’s, Down Syndrome, and Autism walks, while Advanced Construction built 40 custom toolbox centerpieces for the Annual Habitat for Humanity Fundraiser. Culinary is also contributing 10 desserts for the Dessert Dash—all made possible by the students’ creativity and supported by their own associations.
Our Video Game Programming seniors recently took an exciting field trip to Valve and DigiPen in Seattle. Meanwhile, our Auto Program received thousands of dollars in donated tools for student rewards, and thanks to the City of Moses Lake, we now have our very own donated fire truck for our Fire Fighting program! We even raffled off a Cooper Kupp football and hosted a Dessert Dash to raise funds for student travel during our recent Advisory Board Banquet. We are so grateful for the ongoing generosity of our community.
All students have now completed First Aid, CPR, AED, EpiPen, and Narcan training, earning two free college credits through BBCC. In addition, Engineering, Manufacturing, Construction, and Advanced Auto students have completed their OSHA 10 certifications.
Looking ahead, Engineering is preparing for the FIRST Robotics Competition, Culinary is gearing up for Bourbon and Bow Ties as returning champions, and all programs are diving into HOSA, FBLA, and SkillsUSA competitions.
It feels more like an event center than a school some days—but that’s exactly what makes CBTECH so special. Our students are engaged, motivated, and learning what it means to be both skilled professionals and outstanding citizens.
We invite you to visit anytime to see the incredible work our students are doing firsthand.
Warmly,
Christine Armstrong

Last week our manufacturing instructor, Sal Lorenzen, set up a meeting with local manufacturing company ALTEK to discuss ways that they might want to partner with SVT to support our students growth and strengthen the pipeline into their industry. Representatives from ALTEK were impressed with the skills that our students are learning in our Advanced Manufacturing program and excited about the chance to partner and help provide industry support for our program.
One of our big goals this year is to build and strengthen industry partners for each of our skill center programs. If you, or someone you know, works in one of the industries we provide education in, we would love to be connected so that we can see how we can help each other! You can contact Amanda St. Pierre at astpierre@cvsd.org for more information!

Tues 10/21/25: Students in Mrs. Buratto's Environmental Engineering helped The Lands Council restore Thompson Creek, which feeds into Newman Lake. They installed Beaver Dam Analogs (BDAs) to reduce phosphorus-laden sediment that causes algal blooms and eutrophication. Thank you to Kat Hall & The Lands Council for facilitating this for our students.

Tri-Tech programs are amazing. What a wonderful day of program collaboration. Pre -Vet, Pre- PT, Pre- Medical Assisting and Pre -Nursing all joined forces to explore surgical procedures and perform pumpkinectomies. Our students worked with unfamiliar teammates, formed functional groups and achieved their mission which were carved pumpkins that will be donated to local senior living organizations. It was a messy but great day!

🫀 A heartfelt day in Sports Medicine!
Our Sports Medicine students took their understanding of the cardiovascular system to the next level by getting up close and personal with a sheep’s heart. Nothing says “hands-on learning” quite like a scalpel and aorta. 🩺🐑
With compassionate curiosity (and impressive composure), they explored every chamber and valve, solidifying their knowledge one coronary artery at a time. Truly, science at its most… dissected.
