Raise your hand if you have questions about how schools are funded in Washington state? ✋
OSPI's mission is to support public education, and that includes keeping students, families, educators, and communities informed! School funding is more than just dollar figures; it's resources and supports for students to help them succeed in the classroom.
School funding is essential, and it's also a huge topic, so we created a series of posts to help explain how it all works. The first post provides an overview of school funding in Washington, including how local, state, and federal funds support K–12 public education. The post covers everything from levies to funding generated by timber, cannabis, and lottery revenue.

Congratulations are in order for Aiden, a 2nd year student in Mr. Sponenburg's Pilot Ground School program. Aiden recently earned his Private Pilot License through @summit.aviation at Felts Field in Spokane. Aiden is 17 and the youngest person to earn his Private Pilot License through Summit Aviation. Aiden's flight license allows him to fly in command of a single engine land airplane - carrying passengers. Aiden shared that NEWTech's Pilot Ground School program provided him with a strong foundation of aviation knowledge/skills and helped him save money on his flight training. Aiden eventually wants to become a commercial airline pilot for a domestic carrier.

We’re incredibly proud to celebrate Chef Cynthia Monroe and the dedicated students of the NEWTech Prep Culinary Arts and Hospitality program for preparing the first course at the Post Street Reserve Dinner!

Chef Monroe, an advocate for local and sustainable food and a Certified Executive Chef, led her students to execute a dish for this event.
The students went beyond simple assembly, meticulously preparing and creating the elegant Smoked Salmon Crostini—including making the crispy brioche itself!
From baking to precise plating, the NEWTech students handled every detail of the first course, featuring: honey-whipped goat cheese, cucumber, smoked salmon, caviar, micro lemon balm, and crumbled potato crisps. This dish wasn’t just delicious; it was a perfect showcase of the next generation of culinary talent in the Pacific Northwest!

Sno-Isle TECH had the opportunity to participate in the Fiber Connect conference held at the Davenport Hotel in Spokane on September 15, 2025! Students demonstrated their fiber splicing skills before industry leaders and members of the Fiber Broadband Association.
Showcasing these technical abilities highlights the importance of preparing the next generation of highly skilled professionals who will support the expansion of broadband infrastructure.
Their participation not only underscored the value of application based training but also demonstrated how emerging talent is ready to meet the growing workforce needs of the fiber broadband industry.
Thank you to our industry partner, Whidbey Telecom for their continued support of our students!

Our Tradeshow of Innovation is underway! Students are beginning the design process to create solutions for community challenges, and we need your input. Parents, family, friends, and other adults in our students’ lives are invited to complete this short survey here: https://tinyurl.com/mu93jmwp. Copy & paste the link to a browser if it does not show the hyperlink.
It asks about your industry, a problem you face at work or in the community, and whether you’d like to be a thought partner with students via email. You can also indicate interest in upcoming events: Pitch Day (Nov. 20) and the Tradeshow of Innovation (May 28, 2026).
Thank you to our SVT community for your continued support!

✨ Graduate Spotlight: Meet Jazzie Sanchez! ✨
We are so proud to introduce one of our amazing Esthetics Program graduates, Jazzie Sanchez! 🎉
Jazzie completed the College Program and graduated in 2022. That same year, she became a licensed esthetician—and in just three short years, she’s already built her own thriving business: Iris and The Fox
, her very own studio! 🦊💐
💖 What Jazzie Loves About Her Career
“The ability to run my own business—controlling my procedures, schedule, and policies.”
💡 Wisdom for Current & Future Students
“Get your license and continue your education forever. There’s always something new to learn, and there isn’t just one right way. Learn from others, and then choose the best way for you.”
🌟 Program Takeaway
Even the little things made a big difference. Jazzie shared how she learned subtle techniques—like always keeping a hand on her client—to help create a comfortable, elevated client experience.
😂 Favorite Memory from Class
“Kahoot competitions with my classmates!”
We are so proud of everything Jazzie has accomplished since graduating from WST Esthetics—and we can’t wait to see what’s next for her! ✨

Advanced manufacturing students had their first field trip of this school year. They first visited Spokane Seed, where they sell seed to the farmers, and then process and sort it when they get the grown product back. Students learned Whitman County is the highest wheat yielding county in the US.
This company was Mr. Traxlerś inspiration for shifting his robotics class this year to include tractors, sprayers, and drones. For example, drones can scan thousands of acres to detect weeds and other issues. Because of this targeted approach, up to 70% of a field doesn’t need to be sprayed. That’s why our robotics used in trades are now agriculture-oriented here in the Palouse.
They also visited Sytech Precision (metal fabrication) and Norfolk Iron & Metal.
These hands-on tours give students the opportunity to see how what they’re learning at SVT can be applied to real-world careers. A big thank you to all of the companies who made this possible!

Washington State Skills Centers are an integral part of the education K-12 system, operating as an extension of the high schools within a local region. The primary purpose of Skills Centers is to give students the academic and work skills to successfully enter the job market or advanced education and training. Skills Centers provide cost-effective, quality job training in programs that would be too expensive to offer at every high school.

Did you know there are 17 Skills Centers in WA state? We will be introducing all of our skills centers over the next few week! To learn more #followalong!

Our Vision
✅Skills Centers are regional secondary schools that provide extended, industry-defined technical education preferred for its high quality, flexibility and advantages for workforce placement and advancement.

Our Goals
1️⃣School Reform: To position Skills Centers as key partners with school districts, resulting in increased student achievement in an ever-changing school reform environment.
2️⃣Data-driven Decision-making: To implement data systems that drive continuous improvement.
3️⃣Legislation/Funding Initiative: To preserve and expand funding for Skills Center cooperatives during the Legislative Session.
