Northwest Career & Technical Academy Maritime student, Roman, brought in this Dyer dinghy for some restoration. After being found in his grandparents barn Roman decided to surprise his grandfather and fix up his old boat with a little TLC. The fourth and final SEATech summer school program feature is Mr. Smith's Crime Scene to Courtroom course, an exploratory program that dives into the field of criminal justice.
Students in this course explore the process of crime scene investigation from perpetration to prosecution. They develop skills, such as interviewing, interrogation, and suspect handling, that are essential for solving crimes and fostering a safe community.

Congratulations to Odyn G! Odyn took 3rd place in the 2024 SkillsUSA National Telecommunications Cabling competition. Odyn is just the second medalist from PCSC in our 14 years!
Held this past June in Atlanta, Georgia, the national competition was a rigorous event spread over three days. It included a one-day workshop with industry leaders representing the telecommunications sector, followed by two days of intense, eight-hour competitions. The challenges tested various skills, including network cabling, coaxial cabling, fiber optic cabling, troubleshooting, and the physical setup of a real-world network connection.
Odyn's impressive performance at the national level earned him a third-place medal, marking him as the first student from Pierce County Skills Center to achieve such a distinction in this category. Alongside his medal, Odyn also received a Skills Point Certification, signifying his readiness for entry-level work as a telecommunications cabling technician. As part of the competition he also earned an industry certification for Technology Customer Service.
The competition was judged by industry experts from Corning, a prominent fiber optic cable manufacturer, and representatives from the Electronics Technicians Association.
Odyn's success reflects his hard work and the quality of education and training provided by Pierce County Skills Center. He plans to return next year as a second-year student, with aspirations to not only medal again, but also aim for the top spot at the national level.

✈️ Exciting Day at the Alaska Airlines Flight Training Center! ✈️
Students from Mr. Forte, Mrs. Mork, and Mrs. Pike's Pierce County Skills Center summer school classes at Bethel and Spanaway Lake High Schools had an incredible field trip to the Alaska Airlines Flight Training Center. They toured the facility, learned about amazing career opportunities, apprenticeships, and job shadows. Most importantly, they discovered the difference between having a career and a job.
