@Tri-TechSkillsCEnter
Congratulations Elijah!
Elijah is a student at Tri-Tech Skills Center and completing the Pre-Veterinary Technician program. Today, he successfully completed a 4 week internship with the ACCO, and chose the animal control officer position as one of his interests. While "dog catching" is in the job description- he had exposure to the following criteria:
Tour of kennel facility, equipment and introduction PowerPoint presentation
Learn how to use a “catch pole”
Intake/Tracking form completed (K9 Polar as impound dog)
Cleaning/Feeding of standard friendly stray impounds (if applicable)
Focusing on common WRMC animal laws (printout)*
“What is Animal Cruelty?”*
Common animal injuries/diseases/conditions (presentation)
Situational awareness training (Dog and human safety)*
Dangerous Dog Vs Potentially Dangerous Dog requirements
Knowing when to involve PD or Medics for a call*
How to operate a tourniquet
Humane Euthanasia (procedures and why it’s needed)
Written warning notice completed for animal violation (mock scene)
Issuance of an infraction and criminal citation
Writing a report for involved infraction/citation
Handling of an injured animal requiring vet procedures
Injured wildlife call (procedures and introduction to avian bird flu)
Neighboring agency relationships and why they are important
Elijah is now the 2nd student to have completed an internship with WRPD through the Tri-Tech Skills Center program. If your kids are interested in an animal career- our local animals and community will always be in need of animal control officers. This need, of course, spans nationwide.
Elijah, thank you for being an awesome intern and good luck with your future animal career!

✈️ Check it out!
Some of our NCTA Core Plus Aerospace students have been attending the SKYFLIGHT Project on Thursday nights — and getting incredible hands-on aviation experience!
Sky Flight (Skagit Youth Flight) is a chapter-sponsored initiative introducing local high school students to what it takes to build and maintain aircraft. The goal? To create one flyable Cessna 150 from two donor airplanes — with students doing most of the work alongside experienced mentors and certified A&P technicians.
📍 Meets every Thursday at 6:00 PM
Skagit Regional Airport — Hangar 400
We’re proud to see our students engaging in real-world aerospace projects and building skills that take learning to new heights. 🚀

✈ It was great to see how much work has been done in Hangar 400. The RV has wings, and the engine has been started. Etienne attached the nut plates for the light mounts. Ali received instructions about bleeding the lines of any air and how to put in the oil. The RV has wings
✈Moving on to the Cessna, Eli identified what is needed on the instrument panel and began to create a template that will be used to make a new one. Etienne installed an antenna.
✈SkY Flight continues to hold the interest of both new and experienced builders.
September/October 2025 Work in Progress
📅December 26, 2025
✈ Hangar 400 has been continually filled with enthusiasm while working on the RV. The faring on the vertical stabilizer has been installed. The “tail feathers” have been sanded. The vertical stabilizer and the elevators have been attached to the rudder. The amount of tension needed to the wires for the elevator cables needed to be researched. The seat ramp cover was removed to tension the rudder. Trouble shooting was needed to fix a problem with the radio. The correct safety clips for the tension cables were ordered. Measurements were taken of the Adell clamp to adhere wire to the tail.

Is that lockers? 👀
It sure is. Inside Maritime|253, classrooms are coming to life with lockers and cabinets going in, fresh paint on the walls, and specialized equipment arriving next week to power hands-on, real-world training.
Outside, crews are prepping the parking lot, installing waterfront benches and lighting along the future promenade. Soon, this 21.1-acre site alongside the Port of Tacoma will welcome both students and the community with public waterfront access.
Built thanks to the 2020 school construction bond approved by Tacoma voters, Maritime|253 is on track to open this fall.
Enrollment for 2026–27 is now open, www.maritime253.org ⚓
